[5/3 - 5/5] Workshop at BUSENA 2025

At The Busena Terrace, we are pleased to present the "Workshop at Busena," featuring artists active throughout Okinawa. During the event, guests can enjoy hands-on experiences such as creating lamps, clocks, plant stands, Ryukyu pine chopsticks, and keychains using Okinawan wood, as well as trying their hand at traditional indigo dyeing. This workshop offers a wonderful opportunity to experience Okinawan culture through crafting. An exhibition and sale of the artists' works will also be held at the same time. We warmly invite you to join us and create special memories of your journey.

<Light of the Forest – Lantern Making –>
Create a light fixture using a base made from Ryukyu Akagi wood, along with branches of island mulberry and Ryukyu paper.

<Clock Making Inspired by the Sea and Forest>
Create a wooden clock by adding a dial made from coral and Ryukyu glass.

Touhenboku / Masahiro Yagi

A woodworking artisan specializing in creating furniture and interior accessories using Okinawan wood, particularly Akagi. With their rounded, inviting shapes and warm, tactile designs, the artist captivates and charms many.

Crafting a Plant Stand from Chāgi (Japanese Black Pine)

"Chāgi" (Inumaki) refers to a type of wood. Using no metal fittings, three wooden legs are secured with wedges to create a stand for holding a flowerpot.

The artisan crafts tableware, primarily focusing on items like plates and bowls, to highlight the beautiful grain of Ryukyu Pine, Okinawa's prefectural tree, allowing its natural beauty to be enjoyed in everyday life.

Experience Color Fading on Accessories Dyed with Ryukyu Mud Indigo

A stencil is placed on an indigo-dyed bag, and a paste-like solution is applied. After using a hairdryer, the bag is washed with water, and the indigo color is removed from the stenciled areas, revealing the design.
・Please note that drying time after washing is not included. We kindly ask that you allow the item to dry on your own.

Choose your favorite from a variety of Okinawan wood shapes, then sand and polish it. Afterward, you can draw your preferred design on it and complete the piece.
