Crafted from kuji—a rare natural material native to limited regions of Okinawa’s main island—LE KOOGEI creates handcrafted basket bags that embody both tradition and contemporary design. Each piece reflects a modern sensibility while remaining deeply rooted in local craft, offering a collection of distinctive bags that complement today’s way of living.

Mayumi Takano "LE KOOGEI"Designer
After studying at the Paris-based fashion school ESMOD, she spent over a decade in Paris as a concept director under Yuki Torii, working alongside contemporaries such as Kenzo Takada, Issey Miyake, and Kansai Yamamoto. She later established her own brands, MYUAI and MAYUMA, before founding Jill International Co., Ltd. In 2017, she launched MAISON MAYUMI and presented the LE KOOGEI collection—an expression of Okinawan traditional craftsmanship fused with contemporary design—at PREMIÈRE CLASSE in Paris.
